So are Ruler of Time and possibly Megaman going to be legal for this ptc?

Flagnine1
09-16-2013, 12:16 AM
Ruler of Time should be legal, Megaman probably will not be. All depends on when the when the sets hit the shelves.

If you know you can make it please register on the online store here: http://www.jascogames.com/catalog/event_registration-special_events/ptc_las_vegas_nevada/42367

Unless Jasco yells at me I'm gonna say Promo Megaman will be legal.
Here are the hotels nearby https://maps.google.com/maps?client=firefox-a&ie=UTF-8&q=hotels+near+avatar+comics+and+games+in+vegas&fb=1&gl=us&hq=hotels&hnear=0x80c8c0fa34ce5a0b:0x748cfa8eab5c94ff,AVATAR +Comics+and+Games,+881+S+Rainbow+Blvd,+Las+Vegas,+ NV+89145&ei=g4c6Uqz6DoLoiALvk4DICA&ved=0CIwCEMgT It should be a slow weekend so the rooms shouldn't be to bad. It's about 10-15min drive to the strip. There are several good/cheap eating options within walking distance as well. As far as I know no new rules will be implemented. Also Sunday during finals I will be holding side events, probably draft or legacy, for those who don't make top 8 with prizes for those as well.

Flagnine1

Would you guys be more interested draft or legacy as a side event?

Zamora
10-01-2013, 10:42 PM
Depends on the draft. RoT, Kof 13 or mix of both gets my vote. Also how much we looking at for draft with 4,8,12 etc. people participating?

Flagnine1
10-01-2013, 11:06 PM
The price should be the same regardless of number of participants. It will probably be KoF or RoT packs.

How many packs per person is draft normally? 6?

vaporgecko

I would like to vote for a RofT/KOF13 draft. I would also suggest the following rules:

3 Packs of RofT and 3 packs of KOF13.
Players draft in 4 player pods.
Before the draft, each player is given 1 Draft Character from RofT and one from KOF13. Each pod gets 1 set of each character (8 characters total).
You MUST resource Chain!
Character Only means Character Only!
40 card minimum decks. Remove 3 cards on the cycle. Mulligan by setting your starting hand aside, drawing a new hand, and shuffling your starting hand back into the deck.

Drafting 8 boosters total may also be fine, especially because of Team Elisabeth. 5 or 6 player pods could also work, in which case each pod would end up getting double the characters (16 in total) but still only randomly hand out the promo characters.

mill 3 cards on the cycle really hurts team elizabeth decks.

mill 3 cards on the cycle really hurts team elizabeth decks.

40 card decks help them out tremendously. Think about it. The less cards there are in the deck, the higher percentage of them are removed by being played to the staging area. Plus Elisabeth mills a fifth of the deck with each Enhance. I think Team Elisabeth will be fine.

I'll agree with a draft as well. It'll be really sad playing my not top 8'ing in a legacy format. Looking forward to the event and seeing how the pros play though.

Magnusotls

elizabeth mills a fifth of the deck but when she does mill it her pay off is 30%. say the deck size is naturally 20 from the opponent playing and checking stuff, it will take elizabeth's R (20+17+14+11+8+5+3=78) / 8 = about 9 times to mill them with her ability. Thats pretty shi tty. Duo isn't hurt that much though on account of he doesn't mill he rfg's.

I would say that the average 6-HS character will go through roughly 10.5 cards a turn (drawing 5-6 cards and playing 4-5 cards each turn). Thus a player will usually cycle their 60-card deck between turn 5 and 6. The average 6-HS character probably plays between 12 and 16 foundations in that time - lets say 14. I think it's reasonable to assume that on our first cycle, your average 6 HS character has 35 cards left between their hand, deck, and momentum.

Elisabeth can start milling on Turn 2, when she is certain to be ready and be able to pass a 4 difficulty attack without committing herself. So that means they 6-Hander is now cycling at:

Turn 1: 10.5; Turn 2: 29; Turn 3: 47.5; Turn 4: 66 = between turn 3 and 4

So on turn 4, our 6HS character has already hit our 35 card deck size between hand, deck, and momentum. Assuming he stops playing foundations, Elisabeth mills him out completely by:

Turn 5: 18.5; Turn 6 37 - Cycle DS: 27; Turn 7 18.5; Turn 8 before Elisabeth's turn 27 - Cycle DS: 17; Elisabeth Turn 8 8; Turn 9 before Elisabeth's turn - 18.5 - Cycle DS: 7; Elisabeth Turn 9 8 - Cycle DS: 0 Elisabeth wins.

And that's assuming the 6 HS player is playing 4-5 attacks every turn and no longer playing foundations or assets or cards on Elisabeth's turn. Therefore, according to your math, it takes Elisabeth just as long to mill a deck at Deck Size: 40 Cycle 3 as it does for her to mill Deck Size:60 Cycle 10.

My math is all grossly over simplified, but I don't think Elisabeth is hurt at all by reducing the Cycle when the deck is 2/3rds the normal size. Now, if a player is able to draft a full 60 card deck, then Elisabeth will have more difficulty, but I don't think she would have much more than she would have if her opponent stopped spamming 4-5 cards every turn in the 60/10 match-up.

I would like to suggest a "Teams Draft" as a side event. It was very successful in the MI PTC, and fun was had by all. If there are not enough people for that, then I am down for whatever.

Describe this "Teams Draft" thing for me.

Here are the rules they used in MI. It works best when you have exactly 24 players and will draft 3 different sets.

People sign up and are randomly assigned to teams of 3.

Set up 3 draft tables. Each team has 1 member to each table.

Each table is given 2 packs of different sets (so one table drafts RH, another RH2, and the third KOF) and drafts, switching directions between packs. After all tables are finished, each team has 5 minutes to consult with one another. Repeat until each table has drafted each set.

Each drafter must construct a 40 card deck using either any character they picked up during the draft, or a foundation that will be treated as a 6/29 character with its symbols and no abilities. No team may have more than 8 copies of any cards between their three decks. Resource restriction is "chain with character only"

Once everyone has built their decks, Swiss pairings using the normal Teams rules -- reveal characters, captains roll for first pick, 2nd pick chooses both remaining matchups, best 2 of 3 for both games to decide a player-match and 2 of 3 player-matches to decide the team-match.

To add. You may also use a foundation as a character as a 7/19 with the symbols and no ability.

Also, we banned Clark. Andy probably should have been banned too.

Three weeks left till the PTC, pick up your tickets on the store (http://www.jascogames.com/catalog/event_registration-special_events/ptc_las_vegas_nevada/42367). I will get a box of KoF and a box of RoT for a draft. If we have enough interest we can try team draft. However I do not have characters from either of these sets. So if someone can bring them it will be much appreciated. If not then I can bring out my box o characters and draft with that.

The main event is Saturday, right? Not saying I'm just going to magically appear in Vegas or anything, but at least I will know when to start looking for updates :)

This is the first RoT legal event really so I have a lot of interest in how it goes :)

I believe its one per pod. So we would be short at least a Iori and a Ralph.

vaporgecko

I can try to bring extras as well.

Theoretically you can seed the pods with just the UC characters from each team if you want, though that is less fun.
