Official US Nationals 2010 Coverage Thread- Brought to you by JascoGames and ATLDrew

    URGENT NEWS! REDUX!
Due to extreme garbage on account of NeonCon staff not knowing what the hell is going on, Extended is being rescheduled to another day this weekend. We will have everything set up by tomorrow morning so please come down and check out the ccg hall in the Cohiba 1 room. All other events are scheduled to go on time so PLEASE do not be late. Follow the big UFS signs. OR come down in about an hour and DRAFT UND SPIEL! You know... giraft.... long neck eats tree?

    But i digress.

    NEWS and PREDICTIONS
    - Doors open at 5:00 PM PST so updates will be sporadic until the tourney gets underway. However, expect an interesting meta. Not just the gray wars people associate with Extended. The Worlds bannings really open up the format and there is still a wide cadre of aggressive builds and characters that people haven't really started tapping into. Hopefully the Extended field today will demonstrate some of the format potential for good ole' orange carding.

    - Some predictions: The cocktail waitress quality will make the jump from the Wednesday C-tier/D-tier to the hopefully A or S-Tier. Wish us luck. Andrew Olexa and Omar Chavez will ride the Stratusphere roller coaster at least. And Ben Shoemaker will get arrested... probably something to do with Mike Lowe.

    NEWS!

So I finally got internet access so here are some results for you guys.

    Legacy Nationals

Here is your top 8 going into Sunday!
    1. Matt Kohls - Evil Matt Kohls
    2. Sean Toysa - Order Yun Seong
    3. Garret Brett - All Nagase
    4. Kirk Polka - Order Alba
    5. Drew Maffei - Void Akuma
    6. Mike Lowe - Life Xianghua
    7. Sal Mazzurco - Tri Symbol Athena
    8. Brad Pennstone -Chaos Talim

Matches start Sunday. Interesting results. Only 3 of the top 8 competitors are playing You Will not Escape. Huge symbols spread. Garret Brett's Nagase is actually the old promo and not Frogase. Athena is traditional tri-symbol. Lot of old favorites.
    Finals should be very interesting.

    Team Nationals
Had 6 teams show up for the event. Here are some results.

    Top 4 Standings:
    1. Zealot Rush (Matt Kohls/Kirk Polka/Garret Brett)
    2. Team Ep!c Fail (Sean Toysa/Marcus Earvin/AJ Murray)
    3. Team Joo Bastid Rides Again (Andrew Olexa/Jeremy Ray/Omar Chavez)
    4. Team FOXStance (Mike Lowe/Danny Fung/Ben Shoemaker)

Zealot rush went on to eliminate Fox Stance in a very close series of games. Kirk Polka's Kisheri put away Danny Fung's Jin Kazama after a clutch Menuett Dance.

Ep!c Fail defeated Team Joo Bastid Rides Again. AJ Murray's Earth Heihachi defeated Andrew Olexa's Cassandra while Sean Toysa's Life Mitsurugi beat Jeremy Ray's All Paul Phoenix to seal the deal.

Your finals are Team Ep!c Fail (Earth Heihachi/Void Nina/Life Mitsurugi) vs. Zealot Rush (All Fire Mitsurugi/ Air Tira/Death Kisheri)! Good luck to everyone and we will keep you updated with results throughout the weekend.Evil

    Standard Nationals

Nationals is a field of 18 with only 2 people playing fire. 2 Mitsurugi, 2 Xianghua, 2 Jin Kazama, 2 Amy, 2 Nina, 2 Omar Chavez. Chaos is the most represented symbol with 5 people playing it (Jin, Kaz, or Omar). 4-5 Life decks. 2 Air decks. Only 1 death deck.

Aj Murray has been turning heads with his crazy Air Temujin build. The deck plays a heaping helping of overpowered 2 checks (3 Dragon Lifters and 4 Playful Slice) and Assassin's Secret to power high damage Dragon Flames or unblockable attacks VERY quickly. For example, AJ Murray second turn in Round 2: Playful Strike, Assassins Secret, Dragon Lifter (w/ Powerful 3) against Ben Shoemaker’s Zi Mei. Went on to win game 3 against Shoemaker’s boarded Mitsurugi by playing 2 combo’d Powerful 3 Dragon’s Flame in the same turn. The deck is a great choice against the Chaos decks in the format due to Chaos's bad blocks and poor defense and spectacular ability to race character like Jin or Heihachi. AJ is currently sitting at 2-1 going into round 4.

Deck Spotlights: Matt Kohls’ All Mitsurugi, AJ Murray’s Air Temujin, Sam and Marcus Nina Decks, Life Xianghua Goldfish Combo. Expect deck spotlights throughout finals day.

Lot of people rocking the Hunt for Jin/Researching the Past combo to fix draws/find threats. I think every life deck is playing the combo to great effect.

“West Coast LOVES them some Quick Strike” –Jeremy Ray. This is mostly in reference to Sal Mazzurco's Chaos Omar and Sean Toysa's incredibly explosive Life Mitsurugi decks. West coast did not disappoint and brought very powerful aggressive decks.

Also... expect 5 NEW Red Horizon cards to be revealed very soon.

Update! AJ Murray's Temujin is now 3-1! Tader Salad's Rugi is now in second place at 3-0-1 after drawing with Jeremy Ray's Jin Kazama.

SMazzurco and Ben Shoemaker are SUPER drunk. Like.... really drink

    TOP 8

    1. Sean Toysa - Life Mitsurugi
    2. Jeremy Ray - Chaos Jin
    3. Andrew Olexa - Chaos Kazuya
    4. Sal Mazurrco - Chaos Omar
    5. AJ Murray - Air Temujin
    6. Stephen Nguyen - Good Amy
    7. Ben Shoemaker - Fire Zi Mei
    8. Kirk Polka - Death Kisheri

Alright gentlemen. Here is the wrap up for Nationals.

    Legacy

Sean "Tader Salad" Toysa (Order Yun Seong) defeats Kirk "Grizzlegrom" Polka (Order Alba)

Game 1: Game 1 for Legacy Finals was 1 hour and 45 minute game 1. Both players struggled to force any kind of damage through and Kirk's Arrogance slowed the game to a crawl. However, Sean was able to stabilize and win the BRT war and was eventually able to mill Kirk out and win by exhaustion.

Intermission: So at this point we have been kicked out of the venue by our gracious douche bag hosts. In UFS fashion, we head to an Italian restaurant to finish up the games and eat/get drunk. What better Legacy finals backdrop is there than tons of PASTA? Anyways...

Game 2: As I didn't get to see the entire game, my coverage is minimal. However, Sean Toysa takes the match after establishing control quickly and winning with High Plasma Beams and Kuzuryu's. Congratulations to Sean Toysa for becoming your 2010 Nationals Legacy Champion!

    Standard

Sal Mazzurco (Chaos/All Omar Chavez) def. AJ Murray (Air Temujin)
Sean Toysa (Life Mitsurugi) def. Kirk Polka (Death Kisher)
Ben Shoemaker (Fire Zi Mei) def. Jeremy Ray (Chaos Jin)
Andrew Olexa (Chaos Kazuya) def. Stephen Nguyen (Good Amy)

    Sean Toysa def. Sal Mazzurco
    Ben Shoemaker def. Andrew Olexa

    Final!
Ben "Nfxon" Shoemaker def. Sean "Tader Salad" Toysa
So here it is. The main event. California's Sean Toysa vs. Atlanta, GA's own lovable Ben Shoemaker. They shuffle up and roll off. Sean wins the die roll and elects to go first. The game is blazing fast. Sean builds 4 foundations turn 1 and passes. Ben does the same. However, he is unable to find an ultimate team or paid to protect and is sitting in a very bad position. Tader readies, draws up. And forms with Rugi. Mist Stance, Hilt Impact, Tiao Wu Kick (along with another attack) go unanswered after Sean is able to successfully speed pump all of them with Rugi's enhance and Ben shuffles up for game 2. Sean takes game 1.

Game 2 goes the other way. Ben elects to play and builds a board of Brooding, Ultimate Team, For The Money and a couple of other foundations. Sean matches him with 4 foundations (none of which are Torn Hero) and keeps 2 cards back to block. Ben readies, draws up and proceeds to play a turn of Wheel Kick, Dragon Lifter (pumped to 15), Neutron Bomb, Dragon Lifter. Sean vaporizes and both players shuffle up for game 3.

Game 3 is a roller coaster. Sean goes first and builds 4 foundations. Ben draws up and plays out Ultimate Team, Paid to Protect and 2 more damage pump foundations. Turn 2 sees Sean draw up into Mist Stance, Quick Strike, Pointing Thrust, 2x Hilt Impact, Tiao Wu Kick. Hoping to get some offense going, Sean elects to not play the Rugi form but opts for Quick Strike into Pointing Thrust, speed pump from Rugi, and goes for the fences. It goes unanswered and Ben soaks the damage. Sean plays out the Tiao Wu and Hilt Impact but checks and is forced to commit out on his last attack. Ben hopes to capitalize but his draw only yields a Wheel Kick/Lifter/Neutron Bomb combo. Ben plays out the combo, draws with the Neutron but misses the Fury of the Ancients he was hoping to get. Ben plays out a few more defensive foundations and hopes for the best as he is sitting at 9 life from the previous assault. Sean draws up and is disappointed to see no new orange cards and elects to bash with the Hilt Impact/ Tiao Wu Kick which Ben answers with Ultimate Team and Shadowar reduction. Ben enters his turn at something like 3 life and draws up to find another Lifter and 2 orange cards to pair with the lifter. Ben gingerly plays them out and drops Sean to 0 life. Sean extends the hand.

Ben Shoemaker is your 2010 National Standard Champion!

Reserved for my awesomeness / craziness.

    Update: Good save right here!
Danny Fung and Myself tied for beers over standard. Sal quickly surpassed us after cuts and Omar is going to get a cup named after him and his size 13 crocs that may or may not made it home.

That's the plan dude. The thing is I don't know what kind of equipment we will have at the site. If it's the camcorders and laptops we had at worlds we should be able to just upload the footage as we get it. It's not going to be anything fancy but it will keep you guys in the action!
